Armin Peter is a seasoned investment banking professional with over 25 years of experience in capital markets and banking. As a former GFMA & ICMA Board member and Chair of the ICMA FinTech Advisory Committee, he has been at the forefront of the sector/s Sustainability & Digital Transformation. Armin is a global facilitator who offers strategic critical thinking and problem solving, utilising exceptional collaborative skills to leverage organisational buy-in and industry connectivity to move towards a more digitalised and decarbonised future.
Having been with UBS Investment Bank, London since August 2006, Armin left UBS in April 2024 as Managing director – Global Head of Debt Syndicate and Head of Sustainable Banking EMEA serving the global DCM franchise in all transactional and digital execution and Sustainable Finance matters. Armin played a crucial role in developing the ICMA Bond Data Taxonomy (BDT), which was successfully implemented in the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s multi-currency Digital Green Bond transaction in 2024. This taxonomy has since become a foundational element of the MAS Guardian Fixed Income Framework (GFIF), published in November 2024. His expertise lies in leveraging technology to drive business transformation in capital markets and create value across businesses and industries. As the former Global Head of Debt Syndicate and Sustainable Banking EMEA at UBS Investment Bank, Armin led global debt issuance across conventional, digital, and labelled bond transactions. He spearheaded the bank’s DCM Tech Agenda, including digital bond issuance and primary bond market infrastructure. He was part of establishing UBS’s Group Sustainability and Impact Organisation, instrumental in establishing UBS’s sustainable finance business across banking, contributing to the development of the bank’s own Green Bond Funding Framework, as well as those of UBS’s clients.
Armin’s strategic thinking and collaborative skills make him a global facilitator, driving the industry towards a more digitalized and sustainable future. This has earned him the responsibility of leading ICMA’s Primary Market Innovation Project and serving as the Co-Chair of GDF’s Tokenized Money Market Collateral Working Group. Previously, Armin was Head of Debt Syndicate EMEA, overseeing UBS’s European debt issuance across corporates, financials, and the supra, sovereign, and agency (SSA) space, as well as issuers from emerging market regions. From 2001 to 2006, he led the SSA & Covered Bond Trading desk at HSBC. Armin has also served as a member of the GFMA Board, Chair of the ICMA FinTech Advisory Committee, an ICMA PMPC Member, and a member of the UBS Sustainable Finance Group (at the UBS Group level). Currently, Armin is a Senior Advisor to the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA); GIST Impact, Maanch, Code Gaia, and the Emerging Market Investor Alliance (EMIA). He is also an Ambassador to The Capitals Coalition and a member of the Advisory Board of the Digital Climate Group (DCG).
