Edward Smith

As Co-CIO, Edward has joint responsibility for Rathbones’ research department, the evolution of its investment process, and its responsible investment philosophy. Day-to-day, he focuses on asset allocation and macroeconomic research, risk analytics, fixed income and currency, thought leadership and cross-asset research, and external communications and business development. He previously worked at BlackRock and Canaccord.

Edward presents frequently to clients and the media on the economic and financial market outlook. He is a regular guest on BloombergTV, CNBC and Sky News. Edward has served on the continuing education committee of CFA UK, contributed to CFA UK learning plans on using macroeconomics in financial forecasting, and has helped CFA UK write position papers, most recently chairing the working group on the future of Corporate Financial Reporting. He is a member of the Society of Professional Economists, and a published expert on risk management. He has an MA from the University of Oxford and an MSc with distinction in Economic History from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
